Whether you’re trying to get away from that creepy neighboror would simply like to make yourself seem more popular, faking an interruption from a cellphone can come in handy every now and again. To properly fake a cell phone call, follow these steps.
Edit Steps
1.
1 Understand who you’re trying to evade and why . Are they nosey? Crazy? Rude?Or simply not as impressed by your level of popularity as you’d like them to be? Be sure to plan your fake conversation accordingly – especially if there’s a chancethis person will call your bluff.
*. If trying to impress someone, you’ll want to make your conversation sound very friendly or possibly even flirtatious to emphasize your desirability. Don’t overdo it, though, or you might come across as “taken.”
*. If trying to shake someone off, you’ll want to make your conversation sound serious andurgent. You might even want to throw in an “Are you okay??”, look at the person you’re avoiding with an apologetic look, indicate that you’re leaving, and head to a private area.
2.
2 Know your phone . Some phones have buttons on the side for controlling volume, vibration, etc. Get to know these buttons well enough to utilize them in the dark, or unseen in the pocket. This way,if caught in an unexpected situation, you can always bail out with that urgent phone call. Be very quick about it though or you will blow your cover.
3.
3 Make sure the phone is onsilent ! This includes all sounds, ringtones, text messages, low battery reminders, voice mail chimes...anything. If that phone goes off in the middle of a fake conversation, your next encounter with the individual you’re trying to evade will be way worse. Most phones have a "Profile" or quick silent setting that will allow you to turn all sounds on or off remotely fast.
4.
4 Pretend to receive a call . Pull the phone out of a discrete place such as a purse or pocket where it could theoretically vibrate unnoticed by anyone but you.
5.
5 Begin your fake conversation . Don’t begin the conversation by saying “Hello?”, as a real cell call will show who’s calling. Instead, say hi to the person you’re pretending to call andask how they’re doing. Take as much time as you need to think of what to say next, as you might simply have a “talkative” friend.
*. In most social situations, a general fake laugh or "Really?" will do the trick for a quick blow-by: this shows that you have a genuine interest in the conversation – and that removing yourself from it at this time would be unacceptable.
6.
6 Be courteous . Acknowledge the person you’re supposed to be talking to with a simple smile and nod, or even a quiet"Hi" showing them that you would just love to stay and chat, but, gosh darn it, you're just too busy right now!
Pre-Planned Method
1.
1 Get on your home phone and call your cell phone . Let it ring and leave a certain very detailed message like you're talking to someone who isn't answering. A good messageto leave: “Hey (name)... I'm good, how are you?… Oh really? That's cool… Meet you later?… Sure no problem … What time?…Okay, see you then!" Don't forget to make facial expressions while you leave therecording to make it sound realistic.
*. You can also have a friend leave this message for you.
2.
2 Listen to your message a few times to come up withsuitable replies . It’s especially important to become familiar with the timing so you don't get cut off and sound like an idiot.
3.
3 Make sure the phone is onsilent . Again, this includes sounds, ringtones, text messages, low battery reminders, voice mail chimes, etc.
4.
4 Turn the volume down . Thisis different from having your phone on silent and is often controlled by toggle buttons onthe side of the phone.
5.
5 Keep your phone in your pocket and discretely hit the speed-dial button for your voicemail . Let the automated intro message play quietly in your pocket before you bring the phone to your face. It’s helpful to know thetiming of your automated message beforehand.
*. Make sure you don’t have any other unheard voicemail messages waiting to be heard before the one that you left yourself.
6.
6 Pretend to receive the call . Pull the phone out of your pocket, turn the volume up, and have a fake conversation with the pre-recorded message.
Edit Tips
*. If you want to avoid someone who’s part of your regular routine (ex. while walking homefrom school with your friends) and have an alarm on your cellphone, set it for when you want it to go off. You can pretend this is your cell phone ringing.
*. Don’t worry too much aboutmaking your phone ring. Plenty of people keep their phones onvibrate and unless it’s on a hard surface or in a dead-silent room, nobody will think twice if they don’t hear yours make any noise.
*. If you absolutely must make your phone ring for effect, go to your ringtone section. Usually when you scroll over a ringtone, it will play. Play the ringtone, then go back to yourhome screen. This will interruptthe tone and it will look like you are answering the phone. Proceed with a conversation.
*. If trying to draw positive attention to yourself, begin an interesting conversation with the person you’re interestedin but leave them wanting more by getting “cut off.” This is good for ex- boyfriends/girlfriends, bosses, that girl/guy you don't have the guts to talk to, etc...
*. If avoiding someone persistent, start the conversation by asking the fake person on the phone if you can have like 20 minutes of their time. This should deter even the clingiest people.
*. Make sure that you leave timefor the fake person on the other end of the fake phone call to respond. It won't sound realistic if you're the only person talking--listening is important too, just like in a real phone call.
*. When faking a call, you do not actually need to fake a back-and-forth conversation. Just hold the phone like you would when listening intently and occasionally say "oh really?" or "wow" or any short interjections.
*. If you are very desperate, plana phone call. Ask someone to call you at a certain time whenyou know you will be with thatperson so that you won't haveto fake it.
Edit Warnings
*. Don't overdo it because if it becomes too complicated, you are doomed to screw up.
*. Even if your phone is on silent,it may flash when events occur. If you have an external screen, face it away from the target.
